Traveling by Car

If you are not especially impressed with trains, and you want to avoid the great theatrical scare tactic that air travel has become, you have the options of either walking to wherever you might want to go, or driving there.  And while some people like to “split the difference” by hitch hiking, most folks will find that it is easier (and a whole lot safer) to just drive.  After all, you can get to where you are going faster, without having to worry that you are going to get picked up and eventually have a “based on a true story” horror movie made about what your ride ends up doing to you.  The scariest part might actually be in thinking about what manufactured celebrity “actor” they might use to play you.

So when you set out in your car, you can avoid a lot of the difficulties of traveling by other means.  For one thing, you have the ability to go from place to place without having to have all kinds of identification, or be strip searched by agents who have neither a sense of humor nor any inhibitions about where their hands go.  For another thing, you have the option of traveling at your own pace.  While a plane or a train might get you there in a fraction of the time, they will not stop at a place that looks neat that is half way to your destination.

Another thing that makes driving around the country a good option is that you can avoid an awful lot of dangers.  While flying in planes is very safe, you are still putting your trust into someone else’s hands.  Not only do you probably not know how to fly a plane.  In this day and age, going up to see the pilots in the cockpit is liable to get you tackled at best.  In your car, you are the master or mistress of your own destiny.
