The need for transportation is a simple fact of life in most areas. It isn’t reasonable to think that everyone lives close enough to their place of employment to walk there every day. However with gas prices regularly shooting about the three dollar mark and beyond, it is no longer feasible for some to continue to drive their cars. Here are just a few form of transportation that could be favorable to gassing up your car week after week.
1.) Get a Great Bike- Biking is something that seems like it’s for someone else. That is until you start riding to work yourself. The investment in a bike and safety helmet can pay for themselves many times over by the time you take gas and car repair into account. As long as the ride isn’t too far, it could also be a great way to get in your daily exercise, ostensibly killing two birds with one stone.
2.) Learn the Bus System- Most cities now have a well mapped put bus system for getting around the city. Bus schedules are generally very easy to learn so as long as you can plan to be at the stop for pickup, you can ride for only a dollar or two. As is true with most things, buying in bulk pays. A bus pass when you know you will be riding at least twice a workday ends up being a terrific value.
3.) Learn the Subway- True, this only applies to bigger cities, but there are a lot of people in those cities who are still driving their own cars. This simply does not make much sense as a means to get around the city. Not only the wear on your vehicle, but most likely you will be paying for parking at most places you visit.
